Ida Hitler: Bio Summary

Ida Hitler was born on 23 September 1886, in Braunau am Inn, Austria. She is the daughter of Alois Hitler and Klara Pölzl Hitler. Alois Hitler was an Austrian civil servant in the customs service. Klara Pölzl was a household servant by Alois Hitler.

Klara was the granddaughter of Alois’ step-uncle Johann Nepomuk Hiedler, who may also have been Alois’ biological father or uncle. The actual biological father of Alois Hitler is uncertain but several names have been proposed by historians as the biological father of Alois Hitler. Klara Pölzl was believed to be the half-niece of Alois Hitler.

Klara Pölzl was also Alois Hitler’s first cousin once removed. Klara Pölzl and Alois Hitler got married on 7 January 1885, in a brief ceremony. Their wedding ceremony took place at Alois Hitler’s rented rooms on the top floor of the Pommer Inn, in Braunau am Inn.

A meal was served for the few guests and witnesses that were present. Alois then went to work for the rest of the day, at his job as a customs official. Even Klara found the wedding to be a short ceremony. They referred to each other as “uncle” and “niece” during their marriage.

Ida Hitler’s siblings are Gustav, born on 17 May 1885 but died as an infant of diphtheria, Otto, born and died in 1887, Adolf born on 20 April 1889, Edmund born on 24 March 1894 but died of measles on 28 February 1900, at the age of five and Paula, born on 21 January 1896.

Only Adolf and Paula survived to adulthood. Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who led Germany from 1933 until he died in 1945. He was the leader of the Nazi Party. He was the party’s chancellor in 1933 and then assumed the title of Führer und Reichskanzler in 1934.

During his dictatorship, he initiated World War II in Europe by invading Poland on 1 September 1939. He was closely involved in military operations throughout the war and was central to the perpetration of the Holocaust, the genocide of about six million Jews, and millions of other victims. He was imprisoned with a sentence of five years.

In jail, Adolf Hitler dictated the first volume of his autobiography and political manifesto Mein Kampf (“My Struggle”). He was released in 1924. Following his release, he attacked the Treaty of Versailles and promoted pan-Germanism, anti-Semitism, and anti-communism with charismatic oratory and Nazi propaganda.

Ida Hitler’s stepsiblings are Alois, Jr., and Angela. Ida’s maternal grandparents are Johann Baptist Pölzl and Johanna Hiedler. Her paternal grandmother is Maria Anna Schicklgruber but her paternal grandfather is unknown.

However, much is unknown about Ida Hitler’s upbringing and early life. She didn’t attend any school. She didn’t have the opportunity to acquire knowledge from any institution.

What Happened To Ida Hitler?

Ida Hitler died on 2 January 1887, in Braunau am Inn, Austria. During the winter of 1887–1888, diphtheria struck the Hitler household which lead to Ida Hitler’s death. She was just 3 months old when she died. Ida Hitler’s sister Paula Hitler died in June 1960, at the age of 64, in Schönau near Berchtesgaden.

Ida Hitler’s brother Adolf Hitler died on 30 April 1945, at age 56, in Berlin, Nazi Germany. He died of suicide by gunshot. He committed suicide with his wife Eva Braun, whom he married on 29 April 1945, one day before they both committed. Eva Braun died after she had bitten into a cyanide capsule. She was a German photographer.
